GMod-Z is a DayZ-style survival gamemode. You wake up on the edge of the map with almost nothing. Scavenge food, water and medicine, avoid the infected, build your gun one part at a time, and decide who you can trust. When you die, your body and everything on it stays where you fell.
Live from the server, refreshed every 30 seconds.
Everything is built around one question: what are you willing to risk for what's out there?
Energy and water drain over time, faster when you sprint. Bleeding drains blood, and low blood drains health. You can break a leg, get sick from pond water or infected wounds, and pick up contamination in gas zones.
Nights are cold, and rain or swimming soaks you. Jackets, hats and gloves keep heat in, and a fire or a roof warms you up. Stay warm and you heal faster. Freeze and you shiver, slow down and start losing health.
Every loot spot on the map holds an item, matched to where it is: rifles at military sites, medicine in clinics, tinned food in houses. Take something and that spot refills on its own timer. Leave it, and it's eventually swapped for something new.
Civilian, rural, police, medic, military and hazmat infected, matched to the buildings they spawn near. They spot you by sight and sound, so crouch to stay hidden and think twice before firing. Headshots kill.
You carry by weight. Backpacks and vests add capacity, and vests absorb torso hits. Equip a primary, a sidearm and a melee weapon. Loose rounds in your pack are your reserve ammo, and guns wear down as you fire.
Traders, the banker and the quartermaster work out of the Trader Camp. Traders only sell what survivors have sold them, and prices rise as stock runs low. You can't walk in while combat-tagged, and disconnecting mid-fight leaves your body behind.
Build a campfire to cook, boil water and dry off. Fish from the shore with a rod you can craft. Food goes off: raw fish lasts hours, dried fish lasts days. A lit fire at night will draw the infected.
Set down a wooden crate or dig a buried stash to keep gear between lives. Anyone who finds one can open it, so hide it well. Stashes survive restarts, but one nobody opens for a week rots away.
Earn XP from infected, survivors, bandits and loot, and rank up to 40. Spend points on skills like Field Medic, Gunsmith, Weapon Care, Craftsman, Survivalist and Endurance, then prestige for titles and gear. Murder survivors and your humanity drops; kill bandits and it rises.
Form a group of up to six. Put money on someone's head, and whoever kills them collects it. The leaderboards rank everyone by kills, infected, longest life, longest shot, bounty earnings and more.
Cars spawn around the map. They need fuel and repairs, and explosions or crashes will wreck them.
A full day lasts about two hours. Nights are short and genuinely dark: the infected see less far, but switch on your weapon light and you'll be seen from much further away.
Every gun is built from real parts. Find them in the world, buy them from the Gunsmith, or strip them off other guns.
Press C while holding a gun to open the customize menu.
Events rotate across the map, and each one is a race. The best gear in the game is out there, and so is everyone else.
A helicopter drops a supply crate under a parachute, guarded by military infected. Follow the green smoke. Once the crate is looted clean, the drop is over.
A burning wreck full of military gear, with a smoke column you can see for miles. The map only marks the area, so you'll have to search. Strip it bare and the fire goes out.
A gas cloud forms, with hazmat infected and a rare cache at its centre. Without a mask, contamination builds fast. Loot the cache and the gas disperses.
Armed groups of three to five move across the map. Once one spots you, the whole group fights. Their bodies sometimes carry a key to a locked room full of military loot.
The essentials. Everything else is in the F1 menu.
